Upcoming Tuesday 10/17/17 Town Council Meeting - More Apartments on Main Street

One of the things I frequently hear and read from residents is 'I didn't know that....was happening'.  While part of me feels its the duty of the citizenry to get informed, another part of me wishes to help in that effort.

On the agenda for this Tueday 10/17/17 at the Town Council meeting is a proposal to build 23 additional apartments (12 two bedroom and 11 one bedroom) at the current Pat McKenna Realty location.  This is what it looks like now:

And this is what is proposed:

The proposal calls for the current home to be knocked down.  The new structure would contain a little less than 3,000 square feel of ground floor office space, along with 23 rental apartments.  Based on the picture, it would appear that McKenna Realty would occupy the office space once the new structure is built.

To support the new building, 42 parking spaces are required.  23 new spaces would be built on the premises, 5 spaces would be under the structure (at ground level), 7 new parallel parking spots would be built in front of the new structure and in front of the church next door, 4 new spots in a municipal lot across the street (next to Kazmierski Orthodontics), plus 3 existing spots in the municipal lot next to Kazmierski Orthodontics.

To put it into perspective for Main Street (please forgive the crudity of this diagram, I don't have my normal drawing tools available.  The numbered boxes are NOT drawn to scale - all locations are approximate):

1) Jackie's Crossing - 4 story building containing 55 'high end' one and two bedrooms apartments.  Currently under construction

2) Main Street Apartments at Marlton - completed and now renting.  24 apartments with ground floor retail.

3) Proposed 4 story building with 51 apartments behind Harvest House.  I have previously detailed this proposal here

4) Proposed 3 story building containing 23 new apartments as detailed above

(There are also 335 additional apartments currently being built at the old Tritowne Plaza site, just off this map.)

I will provide additional information on the 4th proposal after the Town Council meeting this week.  Informational documents regarding this proposal can be found here.

I believe opinions regarding this proposal will fall into two camps.

1) There are too many apartments already and its ruining the town.
2) Bringing residences to Main Street is the only way to create a vibrant downtown.

If you have a strong opinion either way, please feel free to express it at the Town Council meeting at 6:30 pm on Tuesday 10/17.  Expressing it on social media sites isn't near as effective as expressing it in person.
