Evesham Township School District School Board Special Session 4/12/2018 - Security Improvements

A Special Meeting of the Evesham Township School District School Board was held on Thursday, April 12, 2018.  The agenda was shorter than the normal monthly agendas usually are, and since I was not in attendance, this summary will be brief.

There were several items on the agenda related to leasing part of the building to the Lenape Regional High School District.  After an auto accident caused damage at Sequoia High School in February, part of the building became unusable.  LRHSD has been renting space in Evans School until their building has been repaired.  There were items on the agenda to finalize the lease and to expand a parking lot at Evans, but those resolutions were tabled until next month.

Also on the agenda were security improvements to the 8 schools in the district.  Last month, the district budget was approved for the 2018-2019 school year, and an additional $210,000 was added to the budget for 'building related security modifications'.  In the wake of the shooting at Parkland High School, Superintendent Scavelli announced  that he would be visiting every school with an architect and representatives from the Evesham Township Police Department to discuss how to improve the entrances to the school - to make a more secure entryway.

As each school was constructed differently, each would require different modifications.  The school board approved a resolution allocating $173,000 for modifications to every school based on the architectural consultations that occurred.  The board also allocated $15,000 for architectural/engineering fees.  The architect will also be responsible for submitting an updated Long Range Facilities Plan on behalf of the district.

In addition, after bids were previously solicited, a contract to have the Beeler HVAC system replaced was awarded.

The next school board meeting is Thursday, April 26 at DeMasi Middle School.
