May 2018 Retail and Construction Update

No big announcements to make in this month's update, but here are all the changes since my last update on April 17th.

Tobacco Mart
I first reported this back on April 17th, though I didn't know at the time whether it was a tobacco mart, or a store called 'Tobacco Mart'.  It would appear to be the latter.  With both Super Cuts and Tobacco Mart having such narrow storefronts, their signs are a little too close together.

Tobacco Mart signage has gone up.  Front door just to the left of handicap parking sign.

Florist at Meetinghouse

A florist appears to be coming to MeetingHouse Square, at the former home of Budget Printing.  There doesn't seem to be much happening inside, though a few things were moved around since I last took pictures on April 18.

Children of America (Day care) Announced at Renaissance Square

Children of America, a childcare chain with 65 locations in 12 states announced in April that they will be joining Renaissance Square.  They will have a 10,000 square foot location, along with a 4,000 square foot outdoor play area.

This location within Renaissance was previously proposed to be a drive thru restaurant, and it was pointed out to me that there was already a drive thru lane built.  Indeed, if you look at the construction of the building, there is also already a drive thru window (though the actual window is not yet in place).

There doesn't seem to be much else going on at the site, so there are no additional pictures to post.

And for those that still don't know (and I'm always surprised to see people ask), Renaissance Square will be 338 luxury apartments, along with retail establishments.  The retail ventures that have already been announced are Dunkin Donuts, Hair Cuttery, La Vez, La Scala, a nail salon, and Gaetano's Steaks.  Evesham Mortgage announced recently they intend to open on the site in the summer.

Korner Bistro
Korner Bistro opened at the intersection of Evesboro-Medford Road and Elmwood at the old Made in Italy location, and has been getting good reviews.  It took a while, but they finally got their signs.

Greene Street

Greene Street opened at Marlton Crossing.  The mid to high end consignment shop is located where Carter's used to be.

Chase Bank at Staples Shopping Center
The Valero gas station property was before the MUA.  It appears that Chase Bank intends to build a branch where the gas station currently is at the corner of Cropwell Road and Route 70 West, and needed additional (or different?) utilities.  It would appear to indicate the plan is to demolish the gas station and build a new building.  It would seem odd to purchase a gas station to demolish it, but I can't come up with another scenario, as the property in question is rather small.
The property in question is in red above, and does not include the rest of the shopping center.

  • At least some of the businesses located at Firstrust Bank on the corner of Lincoln Drive and Route 73 N, home of a future Royal Farms, have received notice to vacate by July.  I would guess that is when their leases are up and construction will begin after that.
  • A proposal to build a diner at the old Casa Carolla location was on the agenda at the Planning Board on May 3rd.  I do not know the results (though assume it was approved) .  I previously wrote about it here.
  • A reliable source has informed me that Mission BBQ plans to open by December or January in the parking lot where Bertucci's is.  This lot was rezoned at the January 22, 2018 Zoning Board meeting and I previously wrote about wrote about it back in January.
  • Word has been trickling out that the Raymour & Flanagan Outlet at the old Borders Shopping Center will only take up half the existing space, from the old Club Metro through Joann's.  That would mean the remaining retail could remain.  I am still trying to get confirmation on this.
  • The Zoning Board approved the required changes to the corner of Route 73 and Kresson Road for the proposed Wawa and Tractor Supply Store.  Most of these stores are in Voorhees and it still has not been approved by the Voorhees Planning Board, despite having 3 meetings devoted to it.  The next meeting of the Voorhees Planning Board is June 13th.

Kudos to the Promenade at Sagemore for reminding people to keep their pets safe
