The Evesham Town Council met on Tuesday February 19th, 2019 for its regularly scheduled meeting.
The agenda can be found here.
Ordinance 2-2-2019 passed 5-0.
Resolution 67-2019 was a resolution expressing support for two bills in the NJ House and Senate for changes to the law to allow Teddy Bear Academy to continue operation. Many members of the public spoke out in support of this resolution, including Leah Anne Perlmutter, the Director of Teddy Bear Academy. The resolution passed 5-0.
Resolution 68-2019 was a resolution to appoint Lewis Kipness as Alternate Number 2 on the Evesham Municipal Utilities Authority. The resolution passed 4-1, with Councilman DiEnna opposed, noting that he thought there were others that were more qualified for the position. Councilwoman Hansen and Mayor Veasy spoke in support of Mr Kipness.
Resolution 69-2019 was a resolution to execute a memorandum of understanding with the NJ Building and Construction Trades Council. As I understand it (and please correct me if I am wrong), when Evesham has a small repair or construction job, rather than having the project be delayed by having to go out to bid, Evesham will hire as temporary employees qualified members of the NJ Trades Council for work with the Department of Public Works. Several members of the public (who appeared to be union members) spoke out in favor of the bill. Council members Hansen, Cooper and D’Andrea all spoke out in favor of the bill as well, identifying it as a great program that will save the township money and that it would pass with bipartisan support. Councilman D’Andrea noted that he and Mr DiEnna supported this on the prior council as well, but couldn’t get enough support to get it passed. The resolution passed 5-0.
The consent agenda passed by a vote of 5-0. Attention was brought to Resolution 80-2019 which would allow the township to receive $200,000 from the county for improvements to Heritage Park, the Tot Lot on Westerly Drive and the Woodstream Park.
There was a proclamation presented to Crystal Charley, President of the Southern Burlington County Chapter of the NAACP, in honor of Black History Month. She was being honored for her proactive approach in building relationships with the Evesham Police Department and local government.

Township Engineer Tim Staszewski noted that there is a bid out for the Mayfair Basin stormwater structure and that repaving is scheduled for Lakeshore Drive and Elm Terrance in Marlton Lakes. The road crews will ‘remobilize’ starting Monday February 25th.
Director of Public Affairs and Senior Services Monica Vandenberg mentioned an upcoming collaboration with Care One regarding an issue of import to Seniors, but couldn’t discuss more until it was finalized. She mentioned the Rotary Club Breakfast scheduled for March 2nd benefiting Operation Yellow Ribbon. All you can eat pancakes from 8am to 12pm.
Did you know that Evesham has the largest ladies golf league in the country? The league begins again on March 20th.
The next council meeting in Tuesday March 5 at 7pm. There will be a presentation on roads at that meeting from Tom Kohl, Superintendent of Public Works.
Not sure how long these have been up, but I just noticed them this week |
