11/11/18 - Raymour & Flanigan Grand Opening, Renaissance Square & Royal Farms Updates and other retail news

Sign on the door of Raymour & Flanigan

Raymour and Flanigan will have their Grand Opening on Wednesday November, 14, 2018.  Here are some photos of their showroom.

A meeting was held at the Planning Board on Thursday November 8th to grant some updates to the Renaissance Square project.  The updates fall into two main categories.

The first updates were for small changes needed to the site for the daycare that will be going there.  The parking lot configuration needed to be changed, as it was originally designed with Burger King in mind.  A drive thru is no longer needed, and an outdoor playground will be built in the same area.  These changes were approved by a vote of 7-0.

Currently, where the playground will be located is a drive thru lane for a fast food restaurant.  Additional parking places were added to the side of the building.

A brief overview of the business was given at the Planning Board meeting by Corrie Garrison, Executive Director of Children of America.  COA has 63 locations including 7 in New Jersey.  The day care will have 2 sets of doors, the first unlocked and the second set that can be opened by PIN code.  There is an office with intercom in direct view of the doors.

The day care will be open 12 hours per day, Monday thru Friday, from either 6:00 or 6:30 AM to 6 or 6:30 PM.  The center will employ approximately 20 people, and will be licensed to care for 120-140 children (as determined by the state licensing agency), however COAs usually only care for 80-100 children in 10 classrooms.

The other set of changes were to the grassy park-like area between the Shoppes parking lot and Route 70.  It has been shown previously like this:

It has been updated and approved to look like this:

Newly added are benches and bike racks, a Tot Lot/Playgorund (1), a dog park (2), and a BBQ Picnic area (3).  It was noted that the nearest the walking path gets to the highway is approximately 80 feet.

Also noted at the Planning Board meeting was that the next Planning Board meeting scheduled for November 26, 2018, would discuss the plans for a Royal Farms at Sunbird Drive.  I had assumed this project was dead: the developer was looking for a left turn lane at Sunbird Drive, but the state was reluctant to grant it, given that there was already traffic problems in the area.  I have no details, but I plan on attending that Planning Board meeting.
