The best place to see a football game in the area |
For the last 2 years, I have been volunteering with the Cherokee Marching Band, so I've been to almost every home and away football over the past 2 seasons. And perhaps I'm biased, being a bit of a 'homer', but Cherokee has the best stadium. I can't speak to turf or locker rooms, but the atmosphere at Cherokee, down in the bowl, among the trees, is second to none. For spectators, while most sit in the stands, there are options to sit on a grassy hill, in the open or amongst the trees, for a unique viewing experience.
But there is one thing missing at Cherokee that I never noticed until someone pointed it out to me. Out of all the schools I've been to over the past 2 years, Cherokee is the only one without an accessible ramp into the stands. The other schools in the district all have ramps: Shawnee has an accessible ramp on the visitor's bleachers, while Seneca and Lenape have ramps on both home and visitors stands.
This oversight is about to change: at the February 20, 2019 meeting of the Lenape Regional High School District School Board meeting, a resolution was approved to accept a bid to add a wheelchair ramp to the home stands at Cherokee. A big thank you to the members of the Lenape Board of Education for correcting this oversight.
Work is scheduled to begin shortly and is expected to be completed by June 2019.

Cherokee Home stands - asphalt near the white truck will be replaced with concrete. |
To accomplish this, a portion of the asphalt to the left of the stands (when facing them) will be removed. A new concrete foundation will be poured in its place. A portion of the existing railing will be removed as well. Cherokee's ramp will look similar to Seneca's shown below.
