Evesham Neighborhood Bradford Chase Turns 25!

Bradford Chase had its Grand Opening 25 years ago this month, in June of 1994.  As I have been researching and writing about neighborhoods in Marlton, some of the stories behind the neighborhoods get complicated, with developers running out of money, planning board changes getting rejected, the town suing builders, homeowners protests and a host of others issues.  The small neighborhood of Bradford Chase has a very short and uncomplicated story.

Chiusano Inc, which had developed other neighborhoods in Marlton, purchased land off Dutch Road, near the Voorhees border with plans to build a neighborhood of 35 homes.  There were three models of houses to choose from, and the homes were 'value engineered...to combine popular designs and functional use of space at exceptionally affordable prices.'  At the same time they were building this neighborhood, Chiusano was also building homes in Evesham at The Meadows at Willow Ridge and Briarwood.

The three models of homes included the Hampshire, a 2-story colonial with 3 bedroom and 2.5 baths, the Concord, a multilevel home of 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths, and the Eastbrook, featuring a contemporary design with practical floor plans to create a dramatic two story foyer, and a grand vaulted ceiling in the living room.  Prices started at $145,500 at pre-construction prices, which increased to $148,500 after the grand opening.

The Eastbrook

There were 13 houses in the first phase of the project and with brisk sales, the final phase began in May, 1995.  The final tally was 16 Concord, 12 Hampshire and 7 Eastbrook.

The neighborhood is somewhat secluded for Evesham.  The township owns much of the last surrounding the homes, and it has maintained its wooded, undeveloped nature in the past 25 years.

One funny thing about writing this post.  As I was searching for occurrences of 'Bradford Chase', photos like this kept coming up.  It was less than three short years ago that this QB battle was the talk of the town.
