When Barclay Chase on Route 70 was announced several years ago, in addition to 264 rental apartments, the new development was also to include 6,000 square feet of ground floor retail. Several of the buildings within Barclay Chase have now been completed and are currently leasing, and as of last month,
the retail space is also available for lease.
Below is a photo of the building that faces Route 70. The left side of the first floor has been designated for up to three retail stores. There are two store entrances facing Route 70, and there is another door (not visible) around the left hand side of the building.
I can't figure out what type of business would work well in this space. (Understand I have never owned a business, so I have no idea how people decide where to open their businesses. I'm just thinking out loud at this point). A small store to cater to the people that live in the complex makes sense, where customers could walk to the location. A dry cleaner, a small convenience store, perhaps? Is 264 apartments enough to support a small business? And seeing as only 2 of the 5 buildings are currently completed, there aren't anywhere near 264 apartments occupied.
The conceptual rendering that the developers presented to the Planning Board several years ago had 'Deli' and 'Cleaners' as placeholders on their artwork.

Will commuters driving by pull into the apartment complex on their way to work if there is coffee for sale there? Would residents want that? What do you see going there?

A shout out to
Simply Gents at the Staples Shopping Center on Route 70. After the our Evesham Township Police Department spent November not shaving for their annual 'No Shave November' to raise money for cancer awareness, Simply Gents reached out to the Police Department to offer free shaves for all officers who took part. Thank you for supporting a worthy cause.

The color isn't quite right though, or maybe the brightness? |
There hasn't been much progress on the new
Starbucks on Route 70 since I last reported, but the
Pizza Hut is moving along swiftly. The vacant space next to the Pizza Hut is filled with equipment for the Pizza Hut, waiting to be installed.

There are a couple of storefronts under construction at the Galleria. While I don't know what is moving in, an interesting item was briefly placed on the Zoning Board agenda, and then removed: a drive up ATM from Bank of America. It was rescheduled for January.
Bank of America currently does not have a branch at this location, so it seems odd that they would want to add a drive thru ATM here.

While at the Galleria, I saw this 'rock'. I just thought it was really cool.

Previously, I haven't included stores that merely changed ownership in this blog (unless they changed their name as well). However, for anyone who has ever stopped going to a retail establishment for bad food or service, having new ownership may make it worth giving a store another chance. So I'll be including them going forward.

Victoria Nails (Cropwell Road and Old Marlton Pike) has new ownership |
There are no updates on Sprouts or any of the other construction at Renaissance Square, as there doesn't seem to have been any progress since my last blog post. (This excludes the Evesham Mortgage building. That building is in a construction area and I am unable to obtain photos.)
This will be the last retail update for 2018. I'll have a list in a few days off all the retail that has opened in 2018, along with all the stores that closed this year. There are way more than I would have thought in both categories.
If any of these projects looks unfamiliar, here are links to the previous stories:
