Sept 1959 - Evesborough West - Where Every Street is a Picture of Loveliness

Evesboro West was never meant to be a thing.  The land it is built on was originally part of Marlton Hills, so I briefly mentioned it in a blog entry about Marlton Hills several months ago. Since it is usually still thought of as part of Marlton Hills and since I couldn't find enough information on it, I didn't think a separate blog entry on Evesboro West was possible.

Ads like the one below were all I could find on Evesboro West.

It turns out, however, that I was spelling the name of the neighborhood incorrectly.  Despite the ad above, and despite the the Evesham Township School District still spelling it 'Evesboro' to this day, that is incorrect.  The correct spelling is Evesborough West, and once you spell it correctly, there is a small amount of information available, enough for this short blog post.

After construction on Marlton Hills ceased in 1955, the rest of the land was sold off to other developers.  The Grand Opening of Evesborough West was on September 25, 1959.  There were two models available, the Jefferson Plantation, a colonial style, and the Franklin Meetinghouse, a split level.  They were available for only $390 down, with total price ranging from $13,300 to $13,900.

Another model, the Carriage House, was added in March 1960, and was "recognized as a dramatic step forward in design.

This was a lower priced model for only $11,990.  In 1962, yet another model, the Colonial Rittenhouse was added with a starting price of $13,490.

The neighborhood was advertised as "the community includes 25 to 30 wooded lots, an unusual feature at this price level... Gracious new homes which reflect the elegance of aristocratic Early America...where every street is a  picture of Loveliness".

By 1964, the neighborhood was near completion, with only 'builder's closeouts' left to sell.  It doesn't appear that there was ever a sign marking the neighborhood, and the usage of the phrase "Evesborough West" or "Evesboro West" fell out of usage, except when the Evesham Township School District publishes their zoning information every year.
